Click one of the following links to see the details of each section of the plan: Crime Education Reform Economic Development Good Government Reform Judicial Reform Coastal Restoration ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT Though some progress has been made to make Louisiana more business friendly, much more needs to be done to stop the out migration of many of our brightest people. Our potential for economic development will continue to be crippled by high crime, poor education, corrupt government and dysfunctional judicial system, so these reforms are an essential part of a plan for meaningful economic growth. But even more should be done. In the Legislature, I will work to make Louisiana more attractive to business and friendlier to its taxpayers. At present, Louisiana’s tax policies regarding business are counterproductive. Instead, we should adopt business tax policies that encourage environmentally sound businesses to expand, to hire Louisiana residents and to purchase Louisiana products. If elected I will work to: 1. Eliminate taxes on corporate debt, sales of heavy machinery and property taxes on offshore equipment, which discourage businesses from locating here, expanding, and purchasing machinery in Louisiana. This tax change will jumpstart our state’s economy. 2. Provide state money to build the economic infrastructure to support the Chamber’s plan to create 30,000 jobs in 5 years. Special emphasis must be given to the creation of value added industries and business cluster development. 3. Expand the small business loan program through existing banks to provide easier access to venture capital for small and startup companies. At present, most incentives go to large companies while small companies offer the greatest opportunity for more and better paying jobs. 4. Provide state money to further expand and modernize our Port, including cruise ship facilities which will create more good paying jobs. 5. Make job training market driven to ensure that we are preparing our workforce for jobs that currently exist. 6. Expand nursing and healthcare education facilities at Delgado Community College to train the many qualified applicants for the thousands of good paying health care jobs that currently go unfilled. 7. Encourage regional cooperation among neighboring parishes and municipalities, including the development of a regional land use plan, since economic problems don’t recognize a parish line. 8. Regionalize the New Orleans Armstrong International Airport, so that the airport can realize its potential to become an economic engine for our area. 9. Prevent tax increases unless approved by the voters.
